The P.E.T. Project
You can give the gift of mobility.
For those who have lost the use of their legs due to polio, landmine injury, amputation, etc.
The wheelchair that goes where wheelchairs can't go!
Millions have been disabled by land mines, accidents, or disease.  Landmines kill or maim one person every twenty minutes.

We believe food and shelter are basic necessities of life.  In addition, we believe everyone should have some means of mobility.  There are over 21 million people in the world in need of some kind of mobility. The P.E.T., a hand-cranked wheelchair, is designed to go where wheelchairs can't go to provide the gift of mobility to persons who have lost the use of their legs. We build these P.E.T.s to give to those persons who are the most in need and where the P.E.T. would be most suited.

Prospere and his P.E.T.
Prospere lives near the Baptist Seminary in Haut, Haiti.  As a child he had polio, whic left his legs useless.  He managed to move about by dragging himself along on the ground with his arms and hands.  When he wanted to go to church, friends would trundle him there in a wheel barrow.  Visitors from the U.S.A. sent him a wheelchair, but with its narrow tires it couldn't go well over the rocky, uneven ground where he lived and it soon wore out.

Meantime, he became a radiant Christian and a cobbler, repairing shoes and leather goods.

Then friends heard of the P.E.T. and requested one.  What excitement when his P.E.T. came.  He can even go into Limbe, 4 miles away!!!

Angolan Land Mine Victims Wait for a P.E.T.
Years of civil war in Angola have left thousands without mobility in rural settings where wheelchairs cannot function.  Missionary Delbert Groves surveys the needs of those from Angola who have fled to Zambia as refugees to escape the war.

Metal parts and wheels are sent to Zambia and the wood parts are added there, and Angolan land mine victims get their P.E.T.s.
